The Indian Government issued a warning against ‘fake messages’ claiming to come from India Post. Reportedly, The Indian government has issued a warning about a new scam targeting India Post customers.
Usually, the scammer will send a message which reads ‘a package is awaiting delivery but cannot be delivered due to incomplete or incorrect address information.’
What is the Scam
Reportedly, the SMS includes a message that reads somewhat like “Your package has arrived at the warehouse and we attempted delivery twice but were unable to due to incomplete address information. Please update your address within 48 hours, otherwise the package will be returned. In order to update the address click on the link [indisposegvs.top/IN]. After the update is complete, the package will be re-delivered within 24 hours.”
Initially, you will get a message reading that a package is awaiting delivery. Recipients are then asked to click on a link provided in the message to update their address details. Now here’s the catch. The moment you click the link, the link will land you to a fake website designed to steal personal and financial information.
In order to deal with this scam, “Have you also received an SMS from @IndiaPostOffice stating that your package has arrived at the warehouse, further asking you to update your address details within 48 hours to avoid the package being returned? #PIBFactCheck Beware! This message is #fake,” PIB Fact Check posted on X.
