Another bright day for India’s space sector as the country’s first private space start-up Agnikul Cosmos successfully carried out its first flight of its home-built 3D-printed semi-cryogenic rocket Agnibaan SOrTeD (Suborbital Tech Demonstrator). The launch took place from the start-up’s own private at Sriharikota.

Earlier, the mission had been marred by four unsuccessful launches, however, this time all the objectives of the mission were met and the performance was nominal, the startup said.

The Indian Space Research Organisation took to X to congratulate the startup. It called the launch a “major milestone”. This was the first-ever controlled flight of a semi-cryogenic liquid engine realized through additive manufacturing.

The rocket is an in-house design of Agnikul Cosmos and was fueled by the world’s first single piece 3d printed engine. The launch was India’s first flight with a semi cryo engine.

As per the startup, the vehicle is a customisable, two-stage launch vehicle capable of delivering payloads of up to 300 kg to an orbit approximately 700 km above Earth.
