Children’s alopecia causes and treatment: Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss in both children and adults. It happens when the immune system attacks the hair follicles, causing hair to come out in patches. This illness can affect any area of the body, however it is most prevalent on the scalp.

According to Dr. Akshay Batra, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Dr Batra’s, alopecia will cause concern for parents. “While genetics and other variables frequently
play a role, nutrition may also have a substantial influence on hair quality. Some foods might trigger or make hair loss worse in children if they cause inflammation or throw off the body’s nutrient balance,” Dr. Batra told Financial Express.com.

Here’s a list of five foods that could lead to hair loss in children:

  • Sugar and processed foods: Eating too much sugar can cause insulin spikes, which lead to inflammation and hair fall.
  • Dairy Products: Children with lactose intolerance or sensitivity may experience inflammatory reactions, resulting to hair loss.
  • Gluten: Children with gluten sensitivity or coeliac disease may lose hair owing to inflammation from gluten-rich diets.
  • Oily and fried meals: It can block hair follicles and hinder hair development by interrupting normal sebum production. Avoid excessive intake.
  • Soda and sugary beverages: It decrease important elements such as zinc and iron, which are necessary for hair development.

Is it possible to treat Alopecia with Homeopathy?

Homeopathy provides a holistic approach to treating alopecia in children by addressing the root causes of hair loss, Dr. Batra revealed. Instead of just focusing on symptoms, it aims to restore balance in the body for natural hair growth.

“A nutrient-rich diet is essential, with foods high in vitamins and minerals like iron, zinc, and vitamins A, C, and E. Incorporating leafy greens, nuts, seeds, and whole grains strengthens hair from within, while homeopathy enhances immunity, digestion, and reduces stress for overall well-being,” he said.

Some of the recommended remedies are:

  • Fluoric acid 30c may be considered for treating patchy hair loss in children.
  • Natrum Mur 200 may be helpful for alopecia triggered by the emotional trauma of losing a loved one.
  • Magnesium Carbonicum can be beneficial for alopecia in children caused by separation from their parents.
