While some were made popular by OTT shows, others simply dominate as a tourist attraction.

As per Google’s year-end search report, ‘Year in Search 2025’, these are the top 10 most trending travel destinations of the year. They not only represent an overall rise in international tourism, but a shifting focus towards spirituality and tranquil spots.

- Maha Kumbh Mela
Google reported the Maha Kumbh Mela was one of India’s biggest attractions for tourists this year. Held once in 144 years, it was held in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. The world’s largest peaceful human gathering became a global exchange of spiritual ideas, but also showed India’s ability to handle a large-scale gathering in terms of infrastructural readiness.
- Philippines
The second-most trending travel destination, the Philippines, announced visa-free entry for Indians for up to 14 days, starting June. The policy change helped reduce travel reluctance and led to a 28% surge in travel searches from India. There was also a complete resumption of direct flights, making it an affordable and accessible Southeast Asian destination.
- Georgia
‘Everybody’s going to Georgia‘ is a common phrase often heard in conversations in 2025. After positioning itself as a ‘European Escape’ that is both affordable and unexplored, Georgia has been associated with rich heritage, culture, and cinematic culture with Indian film shoots. Indian arrivals grew by 40% in the first half of 2025, fostered by the e-visa feature.
- Mauritius
A travel staple for many Indians for quite some time, it has its signature appeal of luxurious experiences and wedding and family-friendly spots. The visa-free option made it a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination for Indian corporates, according to the Google report.
- Kashmir
A target of the unfortunate Pahalgam Terror Attack, Kashmir dominated its position as a prime0 domestic destination. Its continued high ranking in travel searches, alongside spiritual destinations, indicated a strong revival and interest in nature-driven domestic tourism.
- Phu Quoc (Vietnam) & Phuket (Thailand) & Maldives
These Southeast Asian escapes are nothing but beauty by the beach. These island getaways are a top favourite for Indian travellers and maintain their consistent popularity. Apart from finding a huge impact from the OTT series, The White Lotus, Phu Quoc gained the tag of Vietnam’s best-kept secret.
- Somnath
The site of the revered Somnath Temple, this Gujarat city is one of the prime pilgrimage spots in India. It secured a top spot on the trending searches list, demonstrating a significant rise in “inward wanderlust” or faith-based tourism within India.
- Pondicherry
Known for its unique blend of French colonial heritage and Tamil Culture, Pondicherry is a popular year-end destination. Known for its unique coastal districts, Pondicherry is another example of a trending domestic spot for unwinding for short breaks, workactions, or a cultural immersion.
