Pixel is not just another dance show. The unique duet of hip-hop and cutting-edge digital projections, directed by French choreographer Mourad Merzouki in association with digital production studio Adrien M & Claire, is all set to mesmerise audiences through a series of performances across India starting with New Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium on December 8.

To be performed as part of the Alliance Française Tour 2023, the dance masterwork will then travel to Mumbai’s National Centre for the Performing Arts on December 16 and Goa’s Serendipity Arts Festival on December 19.

The tour has been organised with the aim of promoting cultural ties between France and India, and fostering relationships in the arts while facilitating collaborations.

Commenting on the upcoming dance tour, Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India, says, “With Pixel and other exciting cultural performances, the Alliance Française network is strengthening the artistic exchanges between our two nations. This dance production serves as a vibrant bond connecting our artistic communities, and exemplifies France’s commitment to offering Indian audiences access to the best of France’s contemporary art scene.”

Pixel is produced and interpreted by Compagnie Käfig, the French hip-hop dance troupe founded by Merzouki in 1996. Merzouki’s works are known for adding circus, martial arts, fine arts, video and live music to his exploration of hip-hop dance.

Since its premiere in 2014, the production has travelled the world, earning rave reviews and captivating audiences with its unique fusion of hip-hop, circus and contemporary dance.

In addition to the performances, Merzouki and other dancers will also conduct auditions and offer masterclasses and workshops in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Goa. Contemporary dance and hip-hop communities of India will also be given an opportunity to feature in Merzouki’s upcoming show, Cartes blanches, which will be released in India next year.
