A new horror flick is set to make its debut right in time for both Halloween and Diwali, a frighteningly delightful development. The movie Thamma, also marketed as a romantic comedy, is set to be a Diwali special with a release date of Oct 21. It is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular roles. Apart from them a star-studded supporting cast also increases its appeal with Paresh Rawal, Faisal Malik, Rachit Singh and Geeta Agarwal.
How much are the cast getting paid for their roles?
A DNA report estimates that Ayushmann Khurrana is being paid Rs 8-10 crores to play the character of Alok Goyal while Rashmika Mandana is receiving a payout between Rs 5-7 crores.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui who plays the main antagonist in Thamma is charging between Rs 3-4 crores. While Paresh Rawal who is set to play Ayushmann Khurrana’s father and Malaika Arora who will appear as a special feature for the song “Poison Baby” are both said to be taking home Rs 2 crores. Information for the salaries of the other cast members were not available.

Thamma is the fifth installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU) which comprises other movies like Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and Stree 2. Described as a “bloody love story” The plot follows star-crossed lovers Alok (Khurrana) and Tadaka (Mandana) as they attempt to take down the vampire king Thamma (Siddiqui) while Alok deals with his own supernatural transformation and Tadaka’s secrets. Thamma was teased in the post-credit scene of Stree 2.
In an interview with Zoom, director Aditya Sarpotdar confirmed that the movie would be more fantastical than scary, saying that unlike the other movies in the MHCU, Thamma was more of a romantic-comedy with supernatural elements. The trailer confirmed this with witty one-liners peppered throughout and the palpable chemistry between Ayushman Khurrana and Rashmika Mandana.
There are more releases lined up in the MHCU after Thamma such as Shakti Shalini, Bhediya 2, Chammunda, Chhoti Stree and Stree 3, so fans of the universe can keep an eye out for news regarding potential release dates. Otherwise, anyone looking to sate their romantic horror comedy craving on Diwali can catch Thamma at the theatres.
