Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated film, Ramayana, has been making headlines ever since it was announced. The first look teaser went viral within moments after it was unveiled. And now, it’s back in the news, this time for its budget. Again! Producer Namit Malhotra has officially disclosed the scale of the investment in what he calls the ‘largest film in the world.’

In a recent podcast with Prakhar Gupta, Malhotra, the powerhouse behind the project, described Ramayana as his “life’s work” and confirmed that the combined cost of the two-part mythological drama is not Rs 1600 crore, as it was reported earlier. It’s a massive Rs 4000 crore!

Yes, you read that right!

“Budget-wise, it was like… everybody thought I’m a lunatic because no Indian film by a long distance comes close to it. To put it simply, it will be like 500 million dollars by the time we are done on both films put together, Part One and Part Two, which is over Rs 4000 crores,” Malhotra said.

The producer further explained that while the numbers are massive for Indian cinema, it’s still not a match when compared to the scale and expenses of similar Hollywood epics. “I still think it’s cheaper than some of the big Hollywood films. So I think we’re making a bigger film at a lower cost. For me, it’s not a money-driven thing, honestly,” he added.

“We’re making the largest film in the world for the greatest story, the greatest epic, that the world should see,” he further remarked.

Directed by the man behind Dangal and Chhichhore Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is not just a retelling of the Indian epic, it is a spectacle that’s India’s answer to big-budget Hollywood films.

The film is being produced with world-class VFX, AI-enabled multi-language dubbing, and a globally inspired soundscape. Music legends Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman are making the music for the film, making sure that the album is priceless!

Malhotra, the producer, also confirmed that they are in talks with an international studio for global distribution, to take this Indian mythological saga to the world audience.

Scheduled to be released in two parts, the first installment of Ramayana will hit theatres during Diwali 2026, and Part Two is slated for 2027.
