A sequel to the 2019 action-thriller, Lucifer, L2: Empuraan released in theatres on March 27, and since then it has smashed all box-office records. After its first day of release, the movie earned Rs 22 crore, witnessing an overall 61.02 percent occupancy rate in Malayalam on its release day. On the third day, the movie earned Rs 6.39 crore for all languages, as per Sacnilk.

On March 29, Empuraan had an overall 46.52% Malayalam occupancy as per the same report. With these numbers, the movie has crossed Rs 100 at the box office worldwide.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh highly praised the movie in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, “EMPURAAN TAKES A HISTORIC START ACROSS KERALA. The highly anticipated biggie, L2: Empuraan, has taken a record-breaking start across Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad – theatres are witnessing packed shows, signalling an earth-shattering opening.”

“Empuraan is on track to rewrite opening-day records. If this momentum continues, it could very well be a game-changer for the Malayalam film industry!” he further added.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and Subaskaran under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions.

With Prithviraj Sukumaran in a key role, L2: Empuraan also stars Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Sachin Khedekar, Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn, Eriq Ebouaney, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Indrajith Sukumaran in pivotal roles.
