The latest Google doodle has marked late legendary Pakistani musician Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s 67th birthday on its homepage with an animation.

Google users can see the doodle about the late ‘Afreen Afreen’ singer as an animated picture on the Google logo, where he is sitting and singing a ‘qawwali’ while his team members are playing musical instruments.

Born in the year 1948, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, nicknamed the Shahenshah-e-Qawwali, passed away at a very early age of 48 due to a cardiac arrest on August 16, 1997.

Carrying forward the 600-year-old tradition of ‘qawwali’ in his family, he is known for his long hour performances and bringing the magic of ‘qawwali’ music to international audience.

The Google doodle is a timely reminder of the old traditional music in the face of the onslaught by the modern ‘loud’ variety that is full of innuendo.
