Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the State Science Museum and Planetarium in Shoghi on Saturday, a Centre for Scientific Learning and Creativity (CSLC). Established by the Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology and Environment (HIMCOSTE) and will be managed by Shoolini University, as per the official statement.
“This establishment aims not only to kindle the flame of curiosity in the realms of science and mathematics among our children and educators but also to nurture a scientific mindset. With interactive models adorning this venue, students with an inclination toward science will find it easier to grasp scientific principles,” Singh said.
The Centre boasts an array of 60 science exhibits, a ‘Hall of Fame’ celebrating India’s eminent scientists, a library, and a fully-equipped YouTube studio. It aims to inspire students, particularly those hailing from rural backgrounds, to explore and consider careers in science and technology, as outlined in the statement.
The Chief Minister also urged the Education Department to facilitate visits by students from all corners of the state to this Center. He expressed confidence that this scientific hub would be a pivotal milestone in enhancing science education and fostering students’ interest in the subject.
The facility further houses an auditorium and offers a wide range of engaging activities designed for children. Additionally, it provides accommodation in the form of a hostel for both students and teachers. By the close of 2024, the planetarium is expected to become operational, enabling students from remote rural areas to stay at the Centre and actively participate in various science-related activities, as informed by the official statement.
