Preeti Sudan has been officially appointed as the new Chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), following the resignation of Manoj Soni earlier this month. This decision was formalized in an official order issued by the President.
Sudan, who is currently serving as a member of the UPSC, will assume her new role on Thursday. According to the order dated July 29, 2024, she will serve as the Chairperson starting August 1, 2024. Her tenure will continue until further notice or until April 29, 2025, whichever comes first.
Who is Preeti Sudan?
Preeti Sudan is a 1983-batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre. She has an extensive background in public service, having held several key positions throughout her career.
Most notably, she served as the Union Health Secretary for three years, concluding her tenure in July 2020. Her appointment to the UPSC’s top position marks a significant advancement in her distinguished career.
Manoj Soni’s Resignation
The official order also confirms the acceptance of Manoj Soni’s resignation form the UPSC Chairperson role, effective July 31, 2024. Soni had submitted his resignation on July 4, 2024. The transition in leadership is now underway as Preeti Sudan steps into the role.
