The preliminary exam was conducted in two shifts for General Studies Paper 1 and Paper 2, totaling 400 marks with all questions being objective-type. Candidates had to choose the correct or most appropriate answer from four options provided. Experts noted that this year’s prelims paper was comparatively easier, suggesting that cut-off scores may be higher.
Following the announcement of the preliminary exam results, selected candidates will proceed to the Mains round, which includes a written examination and a personality test. The Civil Services Mains Examination 2024 is tentatively scheduled to commence on September 20, according to the UPSC calendar.
This year, approximately 1,056 vacancies across various central government services and departments are expected to be filled through these recruitment exams, including positions in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Additionally, 40 vacancies are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).
