Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary University, commonly known as SGT University has launched SGTU Online. Through this online platform, the institution aims to offer flexible and accessible education, it further enables students to pursue a variety of programmes remotely, combining quality curriculum aligned with the latest National Education Policy (NEP) guidelines and internationally accepted credit systems.
The online platform supports diverse disciplines with emphasis on practical and research-oriented learning, allowing students to engage with global peers and experienced faculty. Admissions for the online programs can be applied for through the official SGT University Online portal, offering a gateway to quality higher education with the convenience of digital access.
The launch of the online platform took place at a conclave named “Higher Education Leaders Conclave 2025,” hosted by SGT University in collaboration with four other institutions. The event marked five years of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and focused on reviewing its impact and planning its future course.
Partner institutions included the University of Lucknow, University of Jammu, Vinoba Bhave University, and Chandragupt Institute of Management, Patna. More than 40 vice-chancellors, academic experts, and policymakers participated in the discussions.
Key discussions around implementation
The theme of the conclave was “Reimagining Indian Education: Legacy, Policy, and Nation-Building in the Light of NEP 2020.” Speakers addressed topics such as education access, skill development, and the need for systemic reform in higher education.
Padma Bhushan Ram Bahadur Rai, Chancellor of SGT University, said that “freeing education from bureaucracy” is important for reform. He also launched “SGTU Online,” a new digital learning platform approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Prof. Hemant Verma, Vice-Chancellor of SGT University, said the conclave offered a space for leaders to collaborate and plan the way forward under NEP 2020.
Emphasis on practical education and inclusion
Speakers pointed out that while NEP 2020 has clear goals, its success depends on strong implementation.
Prof. Umesh Rai of the University of Jammu said practical skills need more focus to make the policy effective.
Prof. Parmendra Kumar Bajpai of Jai Prakash University noted that forums like this are helpful for feedback and adjustment.
Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, Vice Chairperson of Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini and former MP, said that NEP aims to reimagine education but called for more work on the ground to realise its goals.
Book launch
The valedictory session included remarks by Najeeb Jung, former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. He stressed that education reform also requires compassion, moral guidance, and better support for teachers, especially in rural areas.
The event ended with the launch of a book titled “Educating India: Colonialism and Indigenous Knowledge Traditions, c. 1780–1900” by Prof. Amit K. Suman.
