The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) recently made an important announcement that brings good news for aspiring medical students. They have decided to lower the examination fee for the NEET postgraduate examination by ₹750, providing much-needed relief to those aiming to pursue a career in medicine.

The news was conveyed through a letter dated January 5, 2024, addressed to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. In the letter, Dr. Abhijat Sheth, the President of NBEMS, expressed gratitude to the minister and attributed the success of the board’s objectives to his guidance.

The letter from Dr. Sheth conveyed the board’s commitment to benefiting a large number of candidates by reducing the examination fee by ₹750 for each applicant. This reduction is applicable to candidates submitting their application forms for upcoming examinations after January 1, 2024.

Dr. Sheth acknowledged the ministry’s valuable inputs and assured continued efforts under the guidance of the Union health minister. The NBEMS aims to persist in its mission to provide more specialist manpower, conduct quality examinations, and offer training opportunities.

While the specific reasons for the fee reduction are not clear, experts speculate that it could be associated with increased revenue from other NBEMS exams or efforts to encourage broader participation in NEET PG.

This development brings relief to countless medical aspirants, removing a significant financial hurdle and allowing them to concentrate on their academic pursuits. The reduced fee is expected to open up opportunities for more students to take the exam, potentially leading to a more diverse and qualified pool of future medical professionals.
