The Karnataka school authorities are speculating the decision of revising school timings after receiving a suggestion from Karnataka High Court. The Department of School Education and Literacy of Karnataka will be reviewing the traffic problem through a meeting scheduled to take place tomorrow on October 5.

The meeting will be key focusing on the timings of school so neither the students nor the parents have to face any difficulties. As per media reports, the department might advance the school timing by one or a half hour to the usual time of 8:30 am. The meeting is aimed to find solutions for the delays caused by traffic congestion problems in the state as Bangalore reports one of the highest traffic congestion states in the world.

However, the decision has not been accepted by the stakeholders of the school including parents, teachers, students, private transporters, and guardians. It is believed the changed timings will impact students’ mental and physical health negatively. It is suggested that instead of changing the school timing authorities should better deploy more traffic personnel near schools for ease of facilitation.

The General Secretary of Associated Management of Schools in Karnataka (KAMS), Shashi Kumar D shed the light on parents’ wellbeing if the timings are advanced by an hour. The usual household chores begin at 4 am and if the timings were advanced the parents had to cut short their sleep leading to bigger problems mentally and physically.

He continued by saying that if Bangalore school schedules are changed, not only parents but the entire school administration, including teaching and non-teaching staff, will have to deal with challenges. They will have to get up early, just like parents, which will put pressure on them. They will have to get to school ahead of the students, which will be very inconvenient.
