The Mobius Foundation has announced that the 7th International Conference on Sustainability Education (ICSE 2025) will take place on September 17-18, 2025, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The theme for this year, “Sustainability Education for Green Jobs”, highlights the critical link between education, environmental responsibility, and the fast-growing green economy.

Globally, the renewable energy sector alone is projected to create over 10 million new jobs by 2030 and 22 million by 2050, but a significant shortfall of 7 million skilled workers is expected by 2030.

The two-day conference will bring together educators, policymakers, industry leaders, youth representatives and sustainability experts to discuss how education can equip the next generation with the knowledge, skills, and values needed for green jobs.

Preparing for a green workforce

As the world faces the dual challenges of climate change and transitioning to a circular economy, ICSE 2025 claims to spotlight the urgent need for a skilled green workforce

According to LinkedIn’s 2024 Global Climate Talent Stocktake, demand for green skills has grown annually by about 5.9% between 2021 and 2024, while supply has only grown by 3.2%. The gap between demand and supply is accelerating, with demand growth nearly doubling supply growth in the last year. By 2030, the green skills gap is projected to reach 18.7%, and by 2050 demand will be more than double supply

The conference will focus on embedding sustainability into education, workforce development and policies that support green jobs at scale.

“I warmly invite you to join us in this year’s ICSE and make it a milestone in reimagining education for a greener, more prosperous future,” Pradip Burman, Founder, Mobius Foundation, said.

Adding to that he noted, “By empowering young people with knowledge and ethical grounding, we can enable them to thrive in green jobs and contribute meaningfully to building a just and sustainable future for all.”

A platform for global collaboration

Since its inception in 2019, ICSE has acted as a global forum to advance Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), closely aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda and SDG 4.7 on sustainability education. Each edition has tackled urgent global concerns such as climate change, biodiversity loss, ecosystem restoration, and climate literacy. The event will feature plenary sessions and keynote addresses by global experts on sustainability education and green economy. It will also boast panel discussions on curriculum transformation, policy integration, and industry partnerships.
