GSEB result 2017: Farhana, the daughter of an Ahmedabad auto-rickshaw driver has scored 99.72 percent in her class XII exams. Farooq Bhai, Farhana’s father, was elated with his daughter’s score when Gujarat Board released the results on May 11. But because of the family’s financial state, they are skeptical about Farhana’s future. Farhana, who wanted to be a doctor since her childhood chose the science stream despite her parents encouraging her to consider other options.
The Indian Express reports that the family is unhappy as the Gujarati medium paper of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is tougher than the exam’s English version. The family believes that the combined results will be unfair to Farhana and thousands of others like her. Farhana’s mother told The Indian Express that they want the government to separate NEET results of Gujarati and English medium exams. Farhana told The Indian Express that “The Gujarati medium paper was very difficult in comparison to the English medium paper. We were so sure I would get a good result and a scholarship, but surprisingly the exam didn’t go very well”.

Farhana’s mother says, ”For two years, she forgot to eat or sleep, she spent all her time studying to the extent that I had to feed her myself many times. Her effort will be wasted if she doesn’t score well.”

Farhana’s father who earns between Rs 8,000 to 10,000 per month was counting on a scholarship to fund Farhana’s education. Notwithstanding this Farhana’s parents have decided to help her fulfill her dreams. Farhana’s mother told The Indian Express that, ”If required, we will ask for aid to fund her education”. No one in Farhana’s family has studied beyond class XII.
