The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has revealed the exam dates for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025. The exam will take place on February 1, 2, 15, and 16, 2025.

GATE 2025 will be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT) across 30 different papers. The exam sessions will be divided into forenoon and afternoon slots. The application portal is expected to open in the last week of August 2024, according to a statement from IIT Roorkee.

All GATE 2025 papers will be available in English. Candidates have the option to sit for one or two papers from the approved two-paper combinations. The GATE scores obtained by candidates will be valid for three years from the date the results are announced.

The GATE exam is a collaborative effort by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven IITs: IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee, under the auspices of the National Coordination Board (NCB) – GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Successful GATE candidates can apply for admission with possible financial aid to master’s programmes and direct doctoral programmes in fields such as engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities. Additionally, doctoral programmes in related branches within these disciplines, supported by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other government agencies, are also available.

GATE scores are also considered by some colleges and institutions for admission to postgraduate programmes without MoE scholarships. Furthermore, several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) utilize GATE scores for recruitment purposes.
