Skill India hosted the ‘Kaushal Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh’ in recognition of candidates who have successfully completed their training within various Skill India programmes and schemes on October 12, 2023 at the auditorium of All India Council for Technical Education.

The event brought together students from numerous skill development institutes, including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK), Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), DGT, PMKVY, SANKALP, apprentices, IIE, NIPUN, Skill India International Centre, NIESBUD and Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS).

The government of India under the Skill India initiative on Thursday distributed skill certificates to more than 10,000 youth from across the country. “It is very important for industry, research and skill development institutions to be in tune with the present times. Recently, about five thousand new ITIs have been set up in the country in the last 9 years adding more than 4 lakh new ITI seats. Institutes are being upgraded as model ITIs with the objective of providing efficient and high-quality training along with best practices,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said at the briefing held in Delhi, adding that the scope of skill development is continuously increasing in India and it is not limited to just mechanics, engineers, technology or any other service. 

Furthermore, the government rolled-out its vision under the Kaushal Deekshant Samaroh to create a blend of school-based and work-based learning, to be able to nurture talent. “ “With the goal of enhancing the skills of more than 30 lakh young individuals across diverse fields, we’ve launched this project under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojna,” Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, explained. 

FE Education spoke to some of the students who were topper and felicitated by the government. Interestingly, the majority of the toppers were women. Prashant – a specially abled young boy, comes from Jabalpur, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, said, “During the course, my teacher taught me very well. I worked hard during my studies. I studied at a number of government schools but the treatment I received at ITI was amazing. In future I want to become an entrepreneur and have an aim to help specially abled youngsters like me.”

Meanwhile, Shivani Sahi who hails from Mukundpur, Delhi and is from a weak financial background has completed the diploma in Beauty and Wellness under the skill India initiative. “ My father worked as a labourer and our family’s financial situation was far from ideal. Through a friend’s recommendation, I discovered GSS Jahangirpuri. I contacted Ma’am, who introduced me to various courses, and I chose to pursue a beautician course. Completing the course was a significant challenge for me, as I struggled to afford the travel expenses from my home to Jahangirpuri. I even worked part-time in a salon to cover these costs,” she explained. 

Sahi claimed that she got a job at the end of the training and has begun to earn. She now plans to own her beauty salon and provide employment opportunities to girls in need, just like her. 

One another girl from Mirzapur of Uttar Pradesh – Anjali Yadav said that after completing grade 12th, she pursued a diploma in Computer Operator Programming Assistant. “Subsequently, I completed the CITS programme at the National Skill Training Institute for Women in Indore. My experience at the college was truly remarkable and I received support from everyone there. The learning environment played a significant role in my development and I achieved the distinction of becoming an all-India topper in my field,” Yadav added.  Yadav went on to say that in years to come she wants to become a teacher. 

Ahtesam Majeed, a girl from Jammu and Kashmir, after completing a diploma course in Food Technology has started her own bakery with her three classmates, which she claims is profitable now. “I enrolled in the Skill India Initiative to pursue a Diploma in Food Technology, driven by a desire to bring innovation to this field. After completing the course, I, along with my friends, presented an idea to our teachers at the Kashmir Government’s Women Polytechnic in Srinagar. My idea focused on launching a bakery that caters to individuals with health concerns like diabetes and sugar-related issues. The teachers welcomed our idea with enthusiasm and the college provided us incubation support for the initial six months. This support included space, equipment and funding,” Majeed said.
