Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to transform India’s recruitment scene, with a growing consensus among employers and job seekers. A report by global job site Indeed has highlighted the expectations and beliefs surrounding AI’s role in job creation, task enhancement, and job security.
ArtificiaI Intelligence To Fuel Job Growth?
The report reveals that 85% of employers anticipate AI’s ability to create new job opportunities within the next 1-5 years. Additionally, 85% believe that AI can substantially improve the nature of employees’ tasks. Furthermore, 77% of employers see AI as a catalyst for enhancing job security and providing more significant career development prospects. These findings underscore the positive outlook among employers regarding AI’s potential contributions.
The majority of jobseekers, numbering 63%, have expressed excitement about AI’s potential impact on the job market. Within this group, 53% are in agreement that AI will lead to the creation of more jobs. This enthusiasm among jobseekers reflects a readiness to embrace AI as a positive force for change in their careers.
Fostering Technological Advancement
Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, while speaking to PTI, emphasized the need for employers to work collaboratively in devising frameworks for the effective use of AI. Kumar said that while job seekers are eager to welcome AI, it is the responsibility of employers to facilitate the seamless integration of AI technologies and foster technological advancement.
Survey Insights
The report is based on a global survey conducted by Censuswide on behalf of Indeed, involving 7,275 employers and employees across seven markets. Within India, 1,142 employers and job seekers participated in the survey. The survey further uncovers jobseekers’ embracing of AI’s potential benefits while highlighting their concerns.
Jobseekers’ Concerns: Balancing Optimism with Apprehensions
Indian job seekers have expressed several concerns regarding Artificial Intelligence, including the need for reskilling or upskilling (43%), potential job losses in their industry or profession (29%), and ethical considerations (20%). They also express apprehensions about negative impacts on their work well-being (17%) and the possibility of bias (15%).
HR/Talent Acquisition Leaders’ Perspective
More than 90% of HR and talent acquisition leaders believe that AI systems and tools will simplify their job responsibilities. Additionally, 86% are confident that AI can enhance the hiring and candidate experience.
The report suggests that in India, employers and employees are among the most enthusiastic adopters of AI, with 98% of HR professionals and 91% of job seekers currently using AI tools for work.
Global Variances in AI Adoption
While India demonstrates a strong affinity for AI, Japan lags behind, with one-third of HR professionals and over half of job seekers not using AI tools. In contrast, France exhibits apprehension, with 30% of job seekers and 25% of HR professionals expressing fear of the technology.
AI Adoption Patterns Across the Globe
Other countries such as the US and Canada boast strong AI adoption, with 92% of HR professionals utilizing AI tools. The UK follows closely with an 88% adoption rate. However, these countries experience resistance from jobseekers, with varying percentages in each region reporting they do not use AI in their professional lives.
In summary, the report underscores the divergent perceptions and adoption of AI in recruitment across the globe, with India emerging as a notable frontrunner in embracing AI technologies.
