Nupur Bora ACS: Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora has been arrested by police for possessing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income. Vigilance officials conducted a raid at her Guwahati residence and recovered Rs 2 crore cash and gold worth Rs 1 crore. Another team raided her rented home in Barpeta as part of the ongoing investigation.
ACS Nupur Bora under surveillance for 6 months: CM
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the officer had been under surveillance for six months due to her alleged involvement in controversial land transactions.
“This officer had transferred Hindu land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle,” he said, before adding, “We have taken strict action against her.”
He further said that corruption has been a recurring issue in revenue circles, particularly in minority-dominated areas.
Who is Nupur Bora?
Nupur Bora, a 36-year-old ACS officer, joined the services in 2019. She was born on March 31, 1989, in Golaghat district in Assam.
She completed her BA in English Literature from Guwahati University and attended Cotton College.
According to her Facebook profile, she worked as a lecturer at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) before joining the civil service.
She began her administrative career as Assistant Commissioner in Karbi Anglong, serving from March 2019 to June 2023. She was then posted as Circle Officer in Barpeta from June 2023 before being transferred to Kamrup.
In a related action, Vigilance officials also raided the residence of Lat Mandal Surajit Deka, an employee at the Revenue Circle Office in Barpeta and a close aide of Nupur Bora.
