Police have arrested a 20-year-old engineering student whose viral video — which drew flak online — showed him deliberately hitting an elderly man with his Thar SUV on July 27 in Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar area. A manhunt was launched after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral.
Shocking CCTV Footage
In the viral clip, the accused, identified as Mannan Anand, is seen speeding down a single-lane road and hitting a scooty, causing 68-year-old businessman Kamal Dutt to fall. The SUV then moves forward and as Dutt stands up, the Thar driver suddenly reverses the vehicle onto him.
Later, the driver — allegedly Anand — gets out of the SUV, stands over the unconscious Dutt and then gets back into the vehicle and drives away.
Charges Filed Against the Accused
Anand has been booked under multiple sections for attempt to murder, rash driving and endangering human life.
According to an official statement accessed by The Indian Express: “Accused Thar driver Mannan Anand, son of Rajinder Anand of House Number 62, Sector 4, Nanak Nagar, Jammu, who was absconding in case FIR No. 163/2025 under sections 281, 125(a), and 109 BNS, has been arrested by Police Station Gandhi Nagar.”
Police also sent a WhatsApp message: “Swift action, sharp pursuit. Absconding THAR driver in the road rage creating anger & concern in Gen public arrested. Justice may take its time, but it never loses its way.”
Incident Details and Victim’s Condition
The incident occurred near Green Belt Park around 1:30 pm on Sunday. A Mahindra Thar with registration number JK02DP-9594 and allegedly driven on the wrong side of the road, hit a scooty near Allora Textiles.
Kamal Dutt was injured in the impact and was rushed to GMC Hospital in Jammu by passers-by. Meanwhile, the Thar driver fled the scene, according to PTI.

Mannan Anand is a 20-year-old engineering student from Nanak Nagar area of Jammu. He is the son of Rajinder Anand. Much details about him is not known yet. The case has sparked outrage and concerns about reckless driving and road safety in urban areas.
