Days after the BJP-led central government announced bringing a ‘white paper’ to compare the economic performance of the Congress-led UPA government’s 10 years with that of the BJP-led NDA government, the Congress party is preparing to counter it with a ‘black paper’ during the ongoing budget session, sources told ANI.
This document, spearheaded by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, is aimed to scrutinise the 10 years of governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

The central government’s announcement of the ‘white paper’ was made during the presentation of the Union Budget on February 1.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while tabling the interim budget for 2024-25 in Parliament, highlighted the Modi government’s successful management of crises since assuming office in 2014, steering the economy toward sustainable growth.

She declared the government’s intention to place a white paper on the House table, stating, “To look at where we were then till 2014 and where we are now, the only purpose is to draw lessons from the mismanagement of those years.”
The budget session, which commenced on January 31 with President Droupadi Murmu’s joint address to both Houses, is the last parliamentary session before the highly-anticipated Lok Sabha polls in April-May. Originally scheduled to conclude on February 9, the budget session will now end on February 10.
