As vote counting progresses in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, early trends indicate a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) mammoths. While former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is leading from the New Delhi constituency against BJP’s Parvesh Verma, key AAP leaders Atishi and Manish Sisodia are trailing in their respective seats.

Arvind Kejriwal is leading against BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 386 votes in the New Delhi constituency. Meanwhile, AAP’s Chief Minister candidate Atishi is trailing behind BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri by 1,039 votes in Kalkaji. Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also lagging, trailing BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah by 1,314 votes in Jangpura. Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also started on a weak note in Greater Kailash but has since gained some ground.

As of the latest update from Times Now, the BJP has crossed the majority mark with leads in 42 out of 70 seats, while AAP is ahead in 28 as of 10:37 am. The counting process, however, is ongoing, with postal ballots being counted first, followed by EVM votes.

The BJP, which has been out of power in Delhi for over two decades, appears poised to dislodge AAP, which had won back-to-back elections in 2015 and 2020. Exit polls had largely predicted a BJP victory and the early trends seem to confirm that projection.

AAP had campaigned on its “Delhi model” of governance, while the BJP aggressively targeted the party over corruption allegations. With several top AAP leaders trailing, the party faces an uphill battle to retain power. The final results are expected later in the day.
