Coal mines West Bengal explosion: At least five people were killed and several others were injured following an explosion at a coal mine in Bhadulia block of the West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Monday.
West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd (WBPDCL) claimed that five people lost their lives due to the blast in its mine, PTI reported.
“So far, we have recovered three bodies. Rescue operations are on,” a police officer said.
The blast took place at around 10.30 am on Monday. The explosion occurred when detonators were being transported for planned blasts at the Gangaramchak and Gangaramchak-Bhadulia coal mines, a WBPDCL official told PTI.
A mine developer and operator (MDO) runs operations at the captive block.
