The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest forecast on Friday (April 5) issued a warning indicating a moderate probability of heat wave conditions in isolated pockets across several regions from April 5- 6. Moreover, a series of weather systems are set to impact various parts of the country in the coming days. 

A Western Disturbance is likely to bring isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh for the next three days, with Uttarakhand experiencing similar conditions over the next seven days. 

Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar are likely to witness isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall with thunderstorms & lightning from April 6-9, while Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Marathawada, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam are also expected to experience isolated light rainfall during different periods from April 5-10. 

Heat wave warning for next 5 days

According to the meteorological department, there is a likelihood of heat wave conditions occurring in isolated areas across various regions till April 6. These regions include North Interior Karnataka, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Additionally, Telangana and Vidarbha are expected to experience heat wave conditions on April 5-6. 

Towards the end of the week, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh may also witness low probability of heat wave conditions. Furthermore, warm night conditions are likely in isolated pockets over Odisha, North Interior Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha during the mentioned period. 

Hot and humid weather is anticipated in various regions, including Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry & Karaikal till April 8, Coastal Karnataka till April 6, and Konkan & Goa till April 7. 

Mercury crosses 40 degC in nine districts of Bihar 

According to weather department, Bihar experienced scorching temperatures as nine districts in the state witnessed mercury levels rising above the 40 degrees Celsius mark yesterday. Buxar district reported the highest temperature at 42.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Sheikhpura (42.1), Aurangabad (41.5), Banka (41), Khagaria (40.8), Gopalganj (40.6), Bhojpur and Siwan (40.4), and Nawada (40.3).

Mercury touches 42 degC as Odisha

The Met Office informed that Odisha, currently experiencing intense heat, has recorded the highest temperature of the season so far, reaching 42 degrees Celsius at two locations yesterday. Additionally, seven places in the state registered a maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius.

Heavy rainfall in Northeast India 

Additionally, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and another over north Bangladesh are expected to result in fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura in the next seven days. 

Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall is anticipated over Arunachal Pradesh till April 7, with the possibility of very heavy falls on April 6. Assam & Meghalaya may experience isolated heavy rainfall on April 5, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim can expect isolated light rainfall in the next two days.
