The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday (March 30) in its latest weather forecast said that moderate to severe thunderstorm activity is expected to persist over Northwest, central, and east India before gradually diminishing. Meanwhile, a new spell of intense rainfall and thunderstorms is forecasted for Northeast India from March 30th to April 1st, 2024. 

Central India is expected to witness isolated rainfall, whereas widespread rainfall is predicted for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The IMD has issued a thunderstorm warning for Odisha and Bihar, along with forecasts of scattered rainfall activities in these areas.

According to the latest updates from the meteorological department, heat wave conditions and warm night conditions are anticipated to prevail over central and peninsular India for the next 3 to 5 days. A decrease in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C is expected over many parts of Northwest India in the next three days, followed by a subsequent rise of 2-3°C. 

Additionally, there will be a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over many parts of Central & East India in the next 2-3 days, with no significant change thereafter. Furthermore, a similar rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C is anticipated over many parts of south peninsular India in the next five days. However, there is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures over Maharashtra in the next 24 hours, followed by a subsequent rise of 2-3°C.

Delhi weather forecast 

According to the meteorological office, Delhi is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with gusty winds on Sunday. The maximum temperature is anticipated to reach around 35 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecasted to be around 20 degrees Celsius. Delhi recorded its warmest day this year on Wednesday, with a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius. 

Heat wave conditions in parts of India 

Heat wave conditions are expected to prevail in isolated pockets over various regions from March 31 to April 3. These include Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha during March 31 to April 1, North Interior Karnataka on March 31, Telangana from March 31 to April 3, and Rayalaseema from April 1 to 3. 

Additionally, warm night conditions are forecasted in isolated pockets over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada till April. Moreover, hot and humid weather is anticipated over Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and north Coastal Andhra Pradesh till April 3.

IMD issues yellow alert for Northeastern states 

The weather office has forecasted a yellow alert for significant rainfall in the northeastern states on Sunday. “Heavy rainfall (64.5-115.5 mm) at isolated places very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on March 30, 2024 and March 31,” IMD said on X. 

Temperature set to increase in Odisha 

The IMD has indicated that due to ongoing dry conditions across significant areas of Odisha and intense solar radiation, maximum temperatures are anticipated to range between 38 to 40 degrees Celsius in many inland regions, with coastal districts experiencing temperatures of 36 to 38 degrees Celsius over the next 4 to 5 days. 

Additionally, the IMD has forecasted a gradual increase in minimum temperatures (night temperatures) by 2-3 degrees Celsius in several areas during the same period. Warm night conditions have been observed in isolated locations within interior Odisha, with the likelihood of this trend persisting for the next 4 to 5 days, according to the IMD.
