Congress general secretary for eastern Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi, who is on a three-day Ganga Yatra in the state, today slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the state, saying that while report cards and promotions look good, there is nothing to suggest anything worthwhile on the ground. Speaking to reporters in Bhadohi on the completion of two years of the state government, she said, “Report card, promotions, all of it sounds good but there’s nothing on the ground, I’m meeting people every day, all the people are in distress”.
Hitting out at BJP’s charges on what Congress has done for 70 years during ist rule, she said, “What did they do in 70 years?’ the argument also has an expiry date. Now they (BJP) should tell what they have done in their five years when they are in power.” On Monday, Priyanka took a 140 km-long boat ride from Prayagraj to Varanasi and also held interactions with students.
Yesterday she also took a jibe at BJP leaders for adding ‘Chowkidaar’ as a prefix to their names on Twitter, saying ‘Chowkidaars’ (watchmen) are only for rich people.
“Unki marzi apne naam ke aage kya lagaen. Mujhe ek kisan ne kaha ki ‘dekhiye, chowkidar to ameeron ke hote hain. Hum kisaan to apne khud chowkidar hote hai (Upto PM Modi what he wish to add before his name. A farmer told me chowkidars are only for rich. Farmers are their own chowkidars),” she said.
