Following the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, it was approved by the Rajya Sabha after an intense thirteen hour debate. The session concluded at 4:02 AM on Friday, with proceedings set to resume at 11 AM on April 4. The bill passed with 128 votes in favor and 95 against in the Rajya Sabha, after securing 288 votes of support and 232 in opposition in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
While Leader of Oppositon, Malikarjun Kharge maintained his negative stand and attacked Bharatiya Janta Party’s stand. However with no clear stand from the Gandhi family, PM Modi shared on X saying, “The passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill by both Houses of Parliament marks a watershed moment in our collective quest for socio-economic justice, transparency and inclusive growth. This will particularly help those who have long remained on the margins, thus being denied both voice and opportunity.”

Adding on he gave his gratitude to all Members of Parliament who participated in the Parliamentary and Committee discussions laying emphasis on the need for diverse opinions, the importance of extensive debate and dialogue. He also elaborated by mentioning how India will enter an era with a sensitive social-justice system and prioritising the dignity of every citizen.
As mentioned by Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankad the consequence of this “rare occasion” was also welcomed by Goa Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant as he said, “Bharat has won! The Constitution of Bharat has prevailed!” after Rajya Sabha gave its nod to the contentious legislation of the Waqf Amendement Bill 2025. Adding on he said that it ensured the workings of the Waqf Board with greater transparency, accountability, inclusive representation, and efficient management.
