The Delhi Police on Sunday registered a case over a “doctored video” of Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that the video showing Shah promising to scrap reservations for SC and ST is fake.
The BJP alleged that the original video was of Amit Shah discussing the removal of the 4 per cent “unconstitutional” reservation for Muslims in Telangana, and it was edited to falsely depict the Union Home Minister advocating ending Muslim reservation, during a recent Lok Sabha election rally.
The BJP has denounced the video by saying that it has been manipulated to distort Shah’s original statements made during a political rally.

The controversy surrounding the video escalated as various social media handles, including the official account of the Telangana Congress, shared the doctored footage, alleging that it revealed the BJP’s “agenda to abolish SC/ST reservation quotas”. These claims have drawn sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who accuse the Congress of disseminating false information with the potential to incite social discord.
After the complaints by the BJP and the Home Ministry, the police filed a case under Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, 171G of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66C of the Information Technology (IT) Act and a probe was initiated. The police also sent notices to the X and Facebook seeking information on the accounts that uploaded and shared the video.
