Telangana Key Constituencies 2023: After weeks of high-octane campaigning across 119 constituencies, followed by polling on November 30, all eyes are on the results day for Telangana Election 2023. After polling concluded, most exit polls have predicted an edge for Congress in Telangana. In the 2018 Assembly elections, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), earlier known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), had won a landslide victory bagging 87 seats out of 119. As the stage is all set to see, who wins the elections, here’s a list of the key seats in Telangana Elections 2023:
Gajwel Assembly seat
Incumbent Chief Minister and the founder of BRS, K Chandrashekar Rao, is contesting from two seats: his original seat, Gajwel, and Kamareddy. In the 2018 elections, KCR secured a victory in Gajwel by over 58,000 votes defeating Vanteru Pratap Reddy of Congress. Reddy was KCR’s rival in 2014 as well and lost by about 20,000 votes. Meanwhile, the BJP has fielded former minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Etela Rajender and Thumkunta Narsa Reddy is the Congress candidate.
Kamareddy Assembly seat
Kamareddy, near Nizamabad, will also be under the spotlight in the 2023 assembly polls. Kamareddy is currently represented by Gampa Govardhan (BRS), a five-time legislator since 1994. In the 2018 elections, Govardhan had defeated Mohd Ali Shabbir, a senior Congress leader who had served as a minister and leader of the opposition in the legislative council. The total number of electors in Kamareddy is 2,45,982. It has 1,18,718 male and 1,27,080 female voters. The BJP has fielded K Venkata Ramana Reddy and Congress has fielded state Congress president A Revanth Reddy.
Sircilla Assembly seat
The candidate in focus from this constituency is Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, 47, popularly known as KTR. He is KCR’s son and Telangana’s IT, Industries, and Municipal Administration Minister. Rama Rao was elected as a legislator from Sircilla in the 2009, 2014, and 2018 general elections and also in a byelection in 2010. He is pitted against Rani Rudrama Reddy from the BJP and Kondam Karuna Mahender Reddy from the Congress in the 2023 elections. The total number of voters in Sircilla assembly segment is 2,40,904. There are 1,17,872 male voters and 1,22,920 female voters.
Chandrayangutta Assembly seat
Chandrayangutta assembly constituency is one of the 119 assembly constituencies in Telangana. A General category assembly seat, it is situated in Hyderabad district and is one of the 7 assembly segments of Hyderabad Parliament Seat. Sitting MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, brother of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, is seeking a re-election. He has been elected to the seat since 2009. He won in 2009, 2014 and 2018.
Jubilee Hills Assembly seat
From this high-profile constituency, the Congress has fielded former star batsman and India team captain Mohammed Azharuddin. After his playing days were cut short by match-fixing allegations in 2000, Azharuddin had taken a plunge into politics by joining the Congress on the eve of the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. The seat is currently represented by Maganti Gopinath of the ruling BRS. BJP has fielded Lankala Deepak Reddy, a member of its state executive committee, as its candidate from Jubilee Hills.
Siddipet Assembly seat
KCR’s nephew and five-time MLA T Harish Rao is contesting from Siddipet constituency. He is pitted against Doodi Srikanth Reddy of the BJP and Poojala Harikrishna who has been fielded by Congress. T Harish Rao had won the seat in the 2018 Assembly elections with 131,295 votes. His nearest rival Bhavani Marikanti had bagged 12,596 votes and BJP’s Naini Narotham Reddy had secured 11,266 votes.
Goshamahal Assembly seat
Goshamahal assembly constituency is one of the 119 assembly constituencies in the southern state. Situated in Hyderabad district, it is one of the 7 assembly segments of Hyderabad Parliament Seat. Muslim voters form the majority in this constituency. From this seat, BJP leader and sitting MLA T Raja Singh is seeking re-election. He had won the seat in 2014 as well. He is pitted against Nanda Kishore Vyas of the BRS party.
