The Sijimali Bauxite Block, spanning Odisha’s Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, is set to catalyze socio-economic transformation for its tribal communities. Operated by Vedanta Aluminium, this project promises to mainstream these regions into development pathways, fostering growth and prosperity.
Vedanta has committed Rs 1,200 crore over 25 years through the Lanjigarh and proposed Sijimali Periphery Area Development Funds. These initiatives, involving public representatives, aim to uplift the area through infrastructure, education, healthcare, and livelihood programs.
The Sijimali Bauxite Mine is expected to generate annual revenues of Rs 2,200 crore for Odisha’s public exchequer throughout its lifespan. This significant contribution will empower the state to launch welfare schemes and meet future infrastructural needs, creating a robust foundation for long-term growth. Additionally, over 1,500 direct and indirect job opportunities will emerge, bolstered by vocational training and entrepreneurship development programs designed to empower local communities.
