The sports wing of RSS, Kreeda Bharti is all set to organise a pan-Bengal Under-17 school football tournament. The tournament, according to an Indian Express report is being organised to appeal to the youths of Bengal. Kreeda Bharti and Ekalavya which is a sports foundation would jointly be organising the tournament. The event would mark India hosting the FIFA tournament along with 125th anniversary of the Swami Vivekananda’s address at the Parliament of the World’s Religions at Chicago which falls on September 11.
The tournament would be played between September 1 to 24. According to the Indian Express report, the organisers have said that they have invited Chetan Chauhan, national head of Kreeda Bharati and Uttar Pradesh sports minister, Aroop Biswas- Sports minister of West Bengal along with Minister of Youth affairs and Sports Vijay Goel for the final match.
What is special about it for the best players in the tournament is the offer of a ticket to the Under 17 FIFA World Cup which is scheduled to start from 6th of October. Supraj Ghosh, secretary Kolkata Mahanagar of Kreeda Bharat, secretary of the tournament committee Supraj Ghosh has said that the event is being organised to promote football and the spirit of youth in Bengal.
The organisers, talking about the tournament have said that the players from renowned schools of Kolkata will be playing against students from districts. The matches would be played in East Bengal F C, Mohun Bagan A C, and St Augustine’s Day School ground. The final match, the organisers said would be played on the East Bengal football club ground in Kolkata. The tournament has been named ‘The Kolkata Cup’
