Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday said that people should have three kids and the country’s policy should be a ‘3-children policy’. Speaking at the celebration of the RSS’ 100 years in the national capital, Bhagwat said that the the country’s policy suggests having “2.1 children”, which is practically not possible, adding that the point 1 means that people should have three kids.

Further backing his point, he said a doctor once explained to him that having three children keeps the kids and their parents healthy.

“India’s policy on population suggests 2.1 children, which means three children in a family. Every citizen should see that there should be three children in his/her family…” he added.

Apart from population concern, Bhagwat spoke on a number of issues including on the election the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), relations with the Centre and other parties among others.

He said the RSS does not have any role in choosing the national president of the BJP. “We don’t decide, if we had to decide, had it taken so long… Take your time, we do not have to say anything,” RSS chief Bhagwat said.

He also said that there’s no trouble between the organisation and the government and they “must trust each other”.

‘Wrong to think Islam won’t be here’

Bhagwat also said that Hindus and Muslims share the same DNA and they are all Indians first. He added that it is wrong for the Hindus to think that Islam won’t be here.

“Hindu thinking does not say Islam won’t be here,” he said, adding that Sangh doesn’t believe in attacking anyone, including on religious lines.

On the changing of names of places and roads, Bhagwat said that places should not be named after aggressors, “I am not saying they should not be named after Muslims…but they should be named after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam (like people).”

He also said that the government’s initiative to remove illegal immigrants is correct and society should also support the cause. Bhagwat also backed the criminal politicians bill saying the leadership of the country should be “clean”.

Bhagwat’s message on education, integrate Gurukul system with mainstream

The RSS chief called to integrate the Gurukul education system with mainstream. He praise the National Education Policy (NEP). He said Gurukul does not mean to live in Ashram but learning about your mother land’s traditions.

“The 64 aspects of the Vedic era that are relevant should be taught. Gurukul education should be integrated into the mainstream, not replaced,” he said, adding that Sanskrit should be included in a manner where the importance is given on knowledge rather than treating it as just a language.

Citing the example of Finland’s education system, Bhagwat said, “In Finland, which is a leading country in education, there is a separate university for training teachers. Many people come from abroad because the local population is small, so they accept students from all countries.”

“Education up to the eighth grade is conducted in the mother tongue of the students… so Gurukul education is not about going and living in an ashram, it has to be linked with mainstream,” he added.
