Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday referred to the upcoming Bollywood film Article 370 during a rally in Jammu and slammed the previous governments for doing ‘dynastic politics’.
While addressing a public rally in Jammu, PM Modi said, “I have heard that a film on Article 370 is going to be released this week… It is a good thing as it will help people in getting correct information.”
The film, Article 370, is scheduled to released later this week. The movie, like the name suggests, is about Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. The film is inspired by true events and recalls the time when Article 370 was abrogated from J&K.
On August 5, 2019, the Centre, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), revoked the special status, or autonomy, granted under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution to Jammu and Kashmir. Following this, the erstwhile state of J&K was divided into two Union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Targetting the former governments of doing ‘dynastic politics’ in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi said, “Jammu and Kashmir had to bear the brunt of dynastic politics for decades. They are only concerned about their families, not about your interests, your families…I am happy that Jammu and Kashmir is getting freedom from this dynastic politics.”
Blaming Article 370 for stalling development in J&K, PM Modi said the BJP government was responsible for its abrogation.
The Prime Minister said Jammu and Kashmir has been moving towards “balanced development” since the abrogation of Article 370, adding that it assured the common people of J&K of social justice for the first time.
Taking a jibe at the Congress and saying that BJP government fulfilled the promise of ‘one rank, one pension, PM Modi said, “The previous governments never respected our soldiers. Congress government kept lying to our soldiers for the past 40 years that they will implement one rank, one pension. It is the BJP government which fulfilled this promise…”
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Jammu Tuesday morning to launch multiple development projects, including those related to education, railway, aviation and road sectors, worth over Rs 32,000 crore.
He was received by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Union minister Jitendra Singh and prominent BJP leaders including J&K unit president Ravinder Raina.
