After nearly 100 schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) received a bomb threat email in the early hours of Wednesday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said that the origin of the e-mail has been traced by Delhi Police and probe in the case is going on.
Speaking to reporters, Saxena said, “Dog squads and bomb disposal units are working. I want to assure the people of Delhi that Delhi Police is fully prepared and we will try to prevent any untoward incident from happening.”
He visited the DAV school in Model Town, which had also received the bomb threat email.
The Delhi Fire Services said that it received a total of 97 bomb threat calls/emails in their control room by noon.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs said it appeared to be a hoax call and that there was no need to panic. Delhi Police said it has conducted a thorough check of all schools that received the bomb threat but nothing was found.
“Some schools of Delhi received e-mails regarding bomb threats. Delhi Police has conducted a thorough check of all such schools as per protocol,” Delhi Police said in a post on X.
“Nothing objectionable has been found. It appears that these calls seem to be hoax. We request the public not to panic and maintain peace,” it said.
Ravinder Yadav, Special CP, Delhi Police Crime Branch said that the emails were received by several schools, adding that some hospitals also recieved the emails yesterday. He added that an investigation in the case is going on.
