At least two people were killed and three others injured after a speeding BMW rammed into an e-rickshaw near Sumitra Hospital in Sector 24 of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Noida, on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at around 6 am when the e-rickshaw, carrying five people, was struck from behind by the speeding BMW car. “Around 6 am, the e-rickshaw was on its way from the City Centre towards 12-22 Chowk. Five people, including the driver, were on board the e-rickshaw,” a police official said, PTI reported.

Following the accident, those injured were immediately taken to a hospital, where two victims succumbed to their injuries, while three are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Noida Sector 110.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Mustafa (50) and Rashmi (25), a staff nurse at Metro Hospital. The injured include Rajendra (45), a resident of Gijhore, the e-rickshaw driver Pawan (27), and Suraj (20).

Noida Police have arrested Tushar, who was driving the car, along with Adi, another person who was in the car. However, another companion, Aman Sisodia, managed to escape.

“The accused are all residents of Sector 41, within the jurisdiction of Sector 39 police station,” police authorities said, adding that they have detained the accused and are actively working to apprehend the one who fled.

The police said further investigations are underway.
