During the ongoing Parliament Budget Session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday laid on the Table a copy of the ‘White Paper on the Indian economy’ to highlight the mismanagement during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule before 2014.

Sitharaman tabled the White Paper in English and Hindi languages, which comprised a list of failures of the UPA government and a list of steps taken by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to mitigate them.

White Paper by the Centre aims to highlight the state of the economy during the Congress-led UPA years.

It states that “In 2014, when we (NDA) formed the government the economy was in a fragile state; public finances were in bad shape; there was economic mismanagement and financial indiscipline, and there was widespread corruption. It was a crisis situation,” according to an NDTV report.

In an all out attack, the Centre, in its comparative analysis on the 10 years of the UPA government, stated that UPA inherited a healthy economy but made it non-performing in 10 years.

To counter the ruling government, earlier in the day, Congress released a ‘Black Paper’ against the BJP, citing unemployment, price hikes and farmers’ distress during NDA rule.

A war of words ensued between the Centre and the Opposition after the Congress released the ‘black paper’ this morning. In a sarcastic jibe at the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the party’s allegations a ‘kaala teeka’ (to ward off evil eye) in the midst of all the good work done by his government.
