As Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to take the reins of the country for a third consecutive term, some National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners are seeking a relook of the Agnipath scheme.
On Thursday, the JD(U) added a review of the Agnipath Army recruitment scheme to its list of expectations from the new NDA government.
“There is anger among voters with regard to the Agnipath scheme. Our party wants that this scheme is discussed threadbare in the government to remove its flaws,” JD(U) national spokesperson K C Tyagi said after the meetings, reported The Indian Express.
However, the JD(U) added that the party’s support to the NDA was unconditional.
Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is also in favour of a review of the Agnipath scheme.
“I definitely believe that yes a samiksha…you know we must revisit that how much could we deliver through agniveer…because this is something which is directly related to the youngsters of our country,” he said in an interview to NDTV.
Paswan’s party has pulled off a stunner by winning all five Lok Sabha seats it contested.
Agnipath is a scheme approved by the Modi government on 14 June 2022. A few months later in September 2022, it was implemented in the country for recruitment of soldiers below the rank of commissioned officers into the three services of the armed forces of the country.
