A 38-year-old engineer allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. A search operation by the police, Coast Guard and local fishermen is underway.

In a purported clip of the incident, the engineer can be seen arriving on the bridge in a car, stepping out and immediately jumping off into the sea.

According to the police, the engineer, identified as Karuturi Srinivas, was deep in debt, Indian Express reported.

Srinivas lived in Palava city, Dombivali. “He was married and earlier worked in Kuwait. In 2023, he came back to India and started his own company along with a partner, which dealt in electrical contracts in residential buildings,” a police officer said, IE reported.

“After we learnt about the incident, we located his car from CCTV footage. We found his Aadhaar card in his car,” the officer added.

His wife was contacted who informed the police that the man was in debt. No suicide note has been recovered.
