An employee of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted in Moscow has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The accused has been identified as Satendra Siwal, a resident of Hapur district in Uttar Pradesh. He worked at the Indian Embassy in Moscow, Russia as India-Based Security Assistant.
He is accused of “leaking top secret information regarding the Indian Army and its strategies to the ISI”.
The ATS in a statement said, “The ATS developed this information and through electronic surveillance and evidence collection.”
Acording to ATS, he was providing “classified information from the Indian Army and military activities to the ISI handlers in exchange for money”. Siwal was earlier called to the ATS office in Meerut where he was not able to give satisfactory answers, and later he “confessed” to his crime.
Siwal was arrested under Section 121A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Official Secrets Act, 1923. Two mobile phones, Aadhaar card, identification document and Rs 600 cash were seized from him.
