A Delhi court on Monday granted interim bail for three days to Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to attend his niece’s wedding. Sisodia, who has been behind bars in the alleged excise policy ‘scam’, was allowed to visit his ailing wife once a week while in custody.
Sisodia was granted interim relief from February 13-15 by special judge MK Nagpal in the cases of money laundering and corruption cases currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 last year on allegations of corruption linked to the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. He was subsequently arrested by the ED on March 9 in a related money-laundering case and has been lodged at Delhi’s Tihar jail ever since.
The relief granted to Sisodia to meet his ailing wife was also granted by the same bench. The relief came following Sisodia’s application dated January 27 seeking custodial parole to meet his ailing wife twice a week.
Sisodia contended that there have been no complaints against him for flouting any conditions imposed upon him by the court. Sisodia’s application mentioned that the condition of his wife, who has been suffering from multiple sclerosis for more than 20 years, was “very poor” and that she required assistance to even walk which was impacting her mental health.
