Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi today launched a frontal attack on West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying both have “resorted to falsehood, bluffed people and have not taken action against corruption.”
“Mamataji and Modiji are making false promises. Mamataji talked of providing jobs to 70 lakh people, while Modiji had said two crore jobs will be given by his government. But not a single person has got employment,” Gandhi said while addressing election meetings in support of Congress and Left candidates.
Sharing the platform with CPI(M) leaders, he also spoke about the “understanding” between Modi and Mamata.
“In this election, Congress and Left are on one side while on the other, there is Trinamool Congress being silently supported by Modi”, he said.
He charged Banerjee and Modi with “telling lies about action against corruption and unemployment”.
He said Modi had promised to bring back blackmoney and give it to the people and fight corruption but nothing has been done.
“On the other hand, his government has brought laws to turn blackmoney into white which I call the Fair and Lovely scheme. Anybody, be a mafia or a thief can turn blackmoney into white by paying a little bit of tax,” he said.
Slamming the TMC supremo, Gandhi said “Five years back Congress had supported Mamataji as she had promised to fight corruption, provide employment to people and build infrastructure. But after becoming chief minister she forgot all her promises”.
Turning to the flyover collapse in Kolkata, he said “It is only in Bengal that a flyover could not be built in five years. Mamata government had given contract to a TMC man who had supplied substandard material which led to the collapse. TMC did not suffer, the people suffered in the incident.”
He said, “Like the flyover, TMC government will also fall” and added if the Congress-Left alliance is voted to power, action will be taken against those responsible for the collapse of the flyover.
The Congress vice-president also criticised TMC government of turning Bengal, once an industrious state, into a “graveyard”.
