The Lok Sabha Privileges Committee on Friday adopted a resolution to revoke the suspension of three Congress MPs, after they expressed regrets for their behaviour unconditionally, reports The Indian Express, citing sources.
The three MPs – K Jayakumar (Namakkal in Tamil Nadu), Abdul Khaleque (Assam’s Barpeta) and Vijay Vasanth (Kanyakumari) – were among the 33 MPS who were suspended on December 18 from the Lok Sabha for disrupting the proceedings of the House, as they protested over the Parliament security breach incident.
They were summoned to appear before the panel, headed by BJP’s Sunil Kumar Singh, on Friday to record their statement over “creating grave disorder in the House”.
The resolution was adopted by the panel in a meeting held on Friday. The resolution will be sent to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat is likely to announce the revocation next week, the sources told IE.
During the Winter Session of the Parliament, a total of 146 MPs – 100 from Lok Sabha and 46 from Rajya Sabha – were suspended after they protested in the Houses seeking a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the Parliament security breach incident that took place on December 13 in the lower House.
While all the MPs were suspended for the rest of the Winter Session, the suspensions of the three MPs, who had reached the presiding officer’s chair, were referred to the Privileges Committee. Meanwhile, the suspension of 11 Rajya Sabha MPs, referred to its Privileges Committee, is still in effect.
