The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the West Bengal police on several issues, including the delay in filing the First Information Report (FIR), the delay in returning the victim’s body to her family, and the alleged failure to protect women and doctors during a mob attack at RG Kar Medical College.
The Court has also directed medical professionals to resume their duties. However, shortly after initially calling off their strike, the resident doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) decided to continue their protest. They are standing in solidarity with other resident doctors’ associations that have been demanding a central law to ensure doctors’ safety following the rape and murder of a Kolkata medic.
