At least nine individuals, including children, were bitten by a dog suspected to be a pet near Muvattupuzha in Kochi, Kerala, on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 9 am when the dog first attacked children leaving a madrassa, according to Muvattupuzha Municipality Chairperson P.P. Eldhose, PTI reported.
The dog then went on to bite several others in the vicinity, Eldhose said. Eventually, at around 1:50 p.m., it was caught with the help of local residents, council workers, and the police working together.
The dog is believed to belong to a local resident who owns multiple canines. Initially, the owner acknowledged it as his pet but later claimed to have only fed it.
“According to one of the veterinarians, it is not vaccinated either,” said the municipality chairperson.
The dog will now undergo observation to determine the next steps.
