Jawaharlal Nehru death anniversary: Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister after independence, passed away on May 27, 1964. His death anniversary is celebrated every year to honour his legacy and achievements. Nehru’s contributions to modern India

Beginning in 1947, Nehru’s term as the country’s prime minister was distinguished by his dedication to secularism, democracy, and a diversified economy. He laid the foundations for several institutions and policies that guided India’s growth and development. His focus on education and scientific advancement led to the establishment of premier institutions like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). Nehru continued to hold the post for more than 16 years and passed away because of a heart attack on 27th May 1964. He is also considered as the pioneer of India’s Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). He is famously known as ‘Chacha Nehru’ for his affection for kids, November 14 is also observed as Children’s Day in India each year in honor of him.

Remembering Chacha Nehru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress party’s Parliamentary Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party National President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken paid homage to the former Prime Minister of India. Khagre on X posted,  “Without the immeasurable contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the creator of modern India, the pioneer in scientific, economic, and industrial domains, the committed defender of democracy, the country’s first prime minister after independence, and our inspiration, India’s history would be incomplete. Our little homage to the “Jewel of India” on the anniversary of his passing,” he stated.
