India-Canada row latest news: Talking tough on the tensions between India and Canada, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar slammed Ottawa’s allegations that ‘agents’ of New Delhi were involved in the alleged murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Talking to former US Ambassador to India and CFR Distinguished Fellow Kenneth Juster in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Jaishankar said that it is not ‘Government of India’s policy’. He was referring to the Nijjar’s killing on Canadian soil.

In a ‘frank’ comment, Jaishankar said that India is open to look at the case provided Canada gives very ‘specific’ information. He also said that Canada must provide relevant information related to Nijjar’s alleged killing outside a Gurudwara in Canada.

He also reiterated that India has been giving lots of information to Canada on ‘organised crime’ on Canadian soil. He said that New Delhi has been ‘badgering’ Ottawa with information. He further added that ‘terrorists leaders’ have been identified by India. Saying that ‘picture is not complete,’ Jaishankar also said that there is an ‘environment out there.’

When asked would India cooperate in case Canada provides any specific information, Jaishankar responded with an ‘of course’. India and Canada have been embroiled in a diplomatic war after Justin Trudeau alleged that India had a potential role in the alleged killing of Nijjar outside a gurudwara located in British Columbia on June 18. It should be noted that New Delhi had designated Nijjar as a terrorist back in 2020.

Jaishankar also spoke openly about Indian diplomats being threatened. He said that all this was ‘really very permissive’. He also said that Indian consulates were being attacked.
