Rajya Sabha member John Brittas called out the lack of time management in Kerala train stations after the introduction of Vande Bharat trains in the state. He has requested that the Union Minister of Railways take the necessary steps to accommodate both general trains and fast-paced Vande Bharat trains.

Along with the request, he also sought more unreserved coaches for trains running in northern Kerala in a letter written to the Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw. He wrote, “While the introduction of Vande Bharat trains in Kerala is undoubtedly a commendable initiative, we cannot overlook the unintended consequences that it has on the punctuality and reliability of other train services.”

Since the inception of two Vande Bharat trains in April and another last month in Kerala, the authorities have not been able to amend the required changes, resulting in delayed trains and making transportation difficult for common people.

According to Brittas, many local trains had to halt to ensure Vande Bharat trains ran on time. Thiruvananthapuram: CPM Rajya Sabha member John Brittas on Tuesday asked Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw to ensure that other trains are kept waiting, delaying passengers and students traveling on those trains. The railways, instead of scheduling the Vande Bharat timings, have resorted to stopping other trains, and this has caused lots of problems for many,” he explained in the letter.

Brittas emphasized that such “indefinite halts” have an impact on the livelihoods and daily schedules of passengers who rely on regular trains for their travel to work or school and return.

The Rajya Sabha member from Kerala raised the issue of the union minister’s lack of unreserved coaches, stating that “trains running through Northern Kerala are perennially overcrowded, leading to uncomfortable, unsafe, and unsanitary travel conditions.”
