Continuing its predictions around the cyclonic circulation which lies over northeast Assam and its neighboring areas, the India Meteorological Department said that several states in the Northeast will be experiencing light to heavy rainfall in the coming days. Bedies this, multiple states in the North will also witness rainfall due to a Western Disturbance which is likely to hit Western Himalayan Region on the night of March 26.

Meanwhile Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius.

Delhi hits maximum heat

According to the India Meteorological Department, the national capital registered a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday, which is three notches higher than the seasonal average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 16.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below the seasonal average. For today, the agency predicted generally cloudy skies with the possibility of a drizzle towards the night or the evening.

Rainfall in Northeastern states

The states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience light to moderate rainfall, ranging from scattered to fairly widespread, from March 24 to March 29. Thunderstorms and lightning are also anticipated during this period.

The IMD also predicted the likelihood of isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall specifically over Arunachal Pradesh on March 25 and 26. Additionally, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may experience heavy rainfall on March 25, while March 25 and 26 could bring heavy rainfall to  Assam and Meghalaya.

Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on March 26. Gangetic West Bengal is likely to experience similar conditions on March 25 and 26, while Bihar and Jharkhand may see these weather patterns on March 25.

IMD predicts rainfall in Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and other states

As per the IMD, the Western Himalayan Region could witness isolated to scattered light rainfall or snowfall today. On the other hand, Punjab, Haryana could get to see isolated light rainfall on March 24. Additionally, thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted over Rajasthan on March 24th, 2024.

A new Western Disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan Region from the night of March 26. Under its influence, isolated to scattered light rainfall or snowfall, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, are highly likely over  Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from March 26 to 29. Moreover, isolated light rainfall is likely over Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan from March 26 to March 28.

Maximum temperature forecast

The regions in East India could see gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C over the next five days, the IMD said in its press release on March 23. Similarly, Central India is expected to experience a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over the next 2-3 days. In both Northwest India and East India, a gradual increase in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C is highly anticipated over the next 4-5 days. For the rest of the country, there is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures over the next 5 days.
